An Onchan MHK has written to Manx Telecom after the firm told customers they could face a £300 bill for installing fibre cables when the Island's copper phone network is switched off.
Rob Callister said he'd been contacted by a number of constituents after the company wrote to them about the changeover.
He says although people can do the work themselves, those who are incapable may not be able to afford hundreds of pounds - and questioned why the charge was necessary.
And he's asked the company to reconsider a £4-a-month charge imposed on those without fibre from this month - saying many can't yet switch over because the infrastructure isn't in place.
