Local authority elections in April could be a "defining moment" in local government and will have an impact on the general election.
That's according to Douglas West MHK Chris Thomas who is urging people to consider putting themselves forward as candidates:
The Department of Infrastructure is issuing a newsletter asking people to help shape the future of their local area - authorities are responsible for £60 million of services.
Mr Thomas says if people aren't prepared to stand they should still make the most of their vote:
