Manx Utilities says it's secured planning approval to put solar panels of the roof of the National Sports Centre.
The company is calling it a milestone of the Energy Transition Programme.
It was among the initiatives championed by its late chairman John Wannenburgh.
MU adds the project at the facility on Groves Road in Douglas is also part of work to explore new types of renewable energy which could be used on the Island.
