Following changes in law this week
The changes in law introduced on the Isle of Man earlier this week, with the implementation of the Civil Partnership Act, now means that gay and unmarried couples are now able to adopt Manx children or children anywhere in the British Isles in need of a family home.
From Wednesday this week those in a civil partnership or who are unmarried but living in an enduring family relationship may apply to adopt.
Catriona Morris, manager at the Isle of Man Adoption Service, says it's a momentous day as before this week only married couples or single adopters could apply.

The amendment allows those couples who have been together for some time but who have not chosen to marry, and same sex couples - whether in a civil partnership or long term relationship, to be considered as future adoptive parents.
