A man who racially abused a pub worker has been ordered to do community service.
Lee John Frearson of Manor Drive in Farmhill appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse.
The 40 year old pleaded guilty to a single count of disorderly behaviour on licensed premises on May 13.
Prosecutor Hazel Carroon told the hearing Frearson had been drinking in the Commercial Hotel on West Quay in Ramsey when he made the remarks, which were overheard by a member of the public who told him “You can’t say things like that”.
Mrs Hughes told him “I find that very disappointing in the Isle of Man – I thought people in the Isle of Man were better than that”.
She also said she’d ask the Island’s probation service to introduce a course to deal with people whose crimes are racially aggravated after hearing no such specialist course is currently available.
Frearson was ordered to do 120 hours of unpaid work and pay £50 costs and £150 compensation to his victim.
However, he wasn’t handed an alcohol ban after the court heard he’d been banned under the Northern Pubwatch Scheme.
