Magistrates have told a fisherman who abused shop staff and assaulted police spitting at officers is “the lowest of the low”.
Jason Craig Quayle of Rearyt-ny-Chrink in Crosby appeared before magistrates at Douglas Courthouse.
At an earlier hearing the 24 year old admitted using threatening behaviour, possessing cannabis, assaulting police and resisting officers on April 5.
Prosecutor Chrissie Hunt told the court Quayle abused Shoprite staff on Michael Street in Peel after he was too drunk to be served alcohol.
He returned to the store two hours later and was arrested by police who were investigating the incident – he struggled as he was being taken into custody and spat in an officer’s face at police headquarters.
Magistrates told him his criminal record was atrocious, adding he’d learned nothing from a previous jail term imposed for similar crimes.
They jailed him for six months, suspended for two years, and ordered him to pay £200 compensation and £125 costs.
He was also banned from on-licensed premises or buying alcohol for a year.
