Work to reconstruct Peel Road in Douglas starts today.
The first stage in the Department of Infrastructure’s £4 million scheme is to strengthen Pulrose Bridge.
This will take five weeks and will then be used as the diversion while work takes place on the main route into the capital.
The whole structure of Peel Road has failed which means it needs to be constructed from its foundations up – a project that's due to take more than a year.
Highways director Richard Pearson says it’s a lengthy process because it has to be done in stages:
