Major effort ongoing to reopen roads

The Department of Infrastructure currently have a great number of resources and contractors deployed across the Island in an effort to open as many roads as possible.

Freezing overnight conditions has meant the substantial amounts of snowfall are not reducing as quickly as they could be.

Around all the worst hit areas the DOI have a number of loading shovels and excavators on road clearing duties, tractors and quad bikes are also being used to help clear the highways and footpaths.

Teams of people have also been out restocking salt bins.

The following roads remain closed:-

· A3 Douglas Road Corner to Ballig Bridge – the carriageway is currently single file from Glen Helen to Cronk-y-Voddy crossroads with access only for residents, not suitable for through traffic. Access for residents is available from Douglas Road Corner to Barregarrow crossroads only, not suitable for through traffic.

· A4 Peel Coast Road, Douglas Road Corner to Ballagyr Lane – access from Peel to Ballabooie Road for residents and, from Douglas Road Corner to Devils Elbow.

· A24 Braaid to Foxdale, Braaid roundabout to Lhoobs Road junction – access only for residents.

· B32 Lhergy Cripperty, A1 Union Mills to Cooil Road – access to The Downs / Cronk Road only.

· B35 St Marks to Garth Crossroads – access only for residents, no through road.

· B35 Ellerslie Farm Road to Garth Crossroads – access for residents, no through road.

· B36 St Marks Crossroads to Garth Crossroads – access for residents, no through road.

· Switchback Road, from A4 Peel Coast Road to A20 Poortown Road – access for residents, no through road.

· B20 Begoade Road, from A2 Main road to its junction with B12 Ballacannell – access for residents, no through road.

· B22 from its junction with Mount Rule to its junction with B10 Beinn-y-Phott – access for residents, no though road.

· A27 from its junction with the Ballacallin to Roundtable – access for residents, no through road.

· A36 Sloc from the Ballamodha A3 to its junction with B44 Linague.

· A27 Roundtable to Ronague.

· The Mountain Road - Hairpin to Creg-ny-Baa.

· Beinn-y-Phott.

· A14 Tholt-e-Will Road from its junction with A18 Mountain Road to Tholt-e-Will pub.

It's hoped some of the closed routes will be ready for reopening by the end of today.
