A major rescue operation was launched last night following reports to the police that a man had entered the water from Douglas Promenade.
Douglas Lifeboat received the call at around 8.30pm and launched a lifeboat to investigate.
A thorough search of the area using searchlights and parachute flares produced no results, and just as the crew were about to stand down it was reported than a man fitting the initial description had been located safe and well.
The lifeboat returned to the station, was washed down, refuelled and was ready again for service just before 10pm.
