Lifeboat crews and coastguard officers were called out in Douglas last night to rescue someone from the foot of cliffs at the gates on Marine Drive.
Both had been called out to help search for a missing person at 10pm - when search teams heard someone shouting for help.
Two coastguards climbed down and helped bring the trapped person back up the steep cliff face.
They were treated by paramedics and taken to Noble's Hospital.
