Jail for man who threatened cop with brick

A man has been jailed for 32 weeks after telling a female police officer he would 'smash her face in' with a brick.

24-year-old James Tarron Keggin, of no fixed abode, was told he should be 'appalled' at his behaviour as he was sent to prison yesterday.

Police were called to Westhill Avenue in Castletown on July 21st - it followed a 999 call from his mother in which the operator could hear glass smashing.

When officers located Keggin he was in a 'fighting stance' and was carrying a brick - during the standoff he was shouting and swearing and making threats towards them.

PAVA spray and a baton were used to restrain him - Keggin then became abusive towards paramedics who were trying to help him.

He later pleaded guilty to affray and an additional charge of sending abusive messages to a police officer over Facebook just two days earlier.

Keggin's advocate told the court the incident had been a 'sorely needed wake up call' adding: "He is truly ashamed at what he has done."

A nine-month licensing ban was also imposed.
