Jail for man who had stun gun in street

Douglas man Kieran Williams was jailed for 36 weeks at Douglas Courthouse earlier this week after previously pleading guilty to possessing a prohibited article. 

 

He was found in possession of the Taser by police at Quid's Inn in Douglas on May 15th - his advocate said he'd picked it up and put it in his pocket but there was no "malicious intention".  

 

Williams was also sentenced for an assault causing actual bodily harm from June 6th - he punched a man twice after he approached him whilst he was on the phone.  

 

The court heard the offences wouldn't have happened if alcohol hadn't been involved with his advocate saying his actions towards the man had been "out of proportion". 

 

Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said it was clear alcohol was at the "root" of his offending adding under the circumstances any sentence imposed could not be suspended. 

 

She sentenced him 16 weeks in prison for possessing the stun gun, 16 weeks for the assault and four weeks for beaching a previous community service order - the stun gun will be destroyed.
