Island to take IGCSE system

The Isle of Man will adopt the IGCSE system from next year.

Minister for Education and Children Tim Crookall made the announcement in Tynwald yesterday following a public consultation exercise that yielded more than 800 responses.

The results were described as 'unequivocal' and clearly supported a move towards the IGCSE.

It's taken by students from across 140 countries and has been in place for 25 years.

There were fears that following the UK's new system, formulated by outgoing Education Secretary Michael Gove, would have been seriously detrimental to the less academic pupils.

Schools will be supported in their preparation by the DEC who will also work closely with Cambridge International Examinations.
