An incident at Jurby Prison yesterday saw a number of inmates stage a peaceful protest over the facilities smoking ban policy.
The inmates involved refused to return to their cells at the normal time, looking for a reversal in the existing no smoking rules.
Following lengthy discussions the officers managed to bring a peaceful end to the situation yesterday evening with all inmates returning to their rooms, without the use of force.
Home Affairs Minister Hon. Juan Watterson MHK said, 'I would like to commend the Governor and her staff for their professionalism in handling this incident. I am also grateful to the IMB members who have attended during the afternoon and evening.'
