Infrastructure not to benefit from parking fine increase

The Department of Infrastructure says it won’t gain financially from increasing the costs of parking fines.

It was revealed this week that a standard parking fine would rise by 50 per cent to £60 from August 1st.

Other changes are also being made including a new fixed penalty of £120 for anyone caught parking in a disabled space.

The news has sparked an angry response from the public but Infrastructure says the move is broadly in line with inflation and will encourage people to comply with road traffic regulations.

Acting Director of Highways Derek Sewell said although the department had made the decision to increase the fines it was Treasury who would benefit:
