The Department of Infrastructure have moved to scrap a proposal that would have seen a two tier drink drive system introduced.
They were initially aiming to change the alcohol limit for those driving on an R plate to 50mg, compared to the standard 80mg level for the fully qualified drivers.
The Department reached the decision following an extended period of consultation.
MHK Quintin Gill campaigned to have the proposal dropped saying that records show a very low level of drink/drive offences by R Plate drivers, branding the suggestions unfair.
He has since commended Minister Gawne for withdrawing the clause.
