A Douglas man who hurled foulmouthed insults at police after a night out has been told he acted like an 'idiot'.
37-year- old David Lee Mcgill, of Elm Avenue, was spoken to by officers near Bordello Wine Bar and Nightclub just before 1am on June 17.
It was after he'd shouted at them and made a 'V' sign with his fingers - they warned him about his behaviour and let him go on his way in a taxi but Mcgill repeated the gesture.
Officers followed the car and spoke to Mcgill again outside JAKS on Loch Promenade - when they attempted to take his details he became "aggressive and argumentative".
At Douglas Courthouse this week Mcgill admitted being drunk and disorderly.
His advocate said the groundworker had a "patchy recollection" of the incident adding "You can treat this matter as a one off - it is out of character."
Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told him "You were acting like an idiot - you were acting like an 11-year- old; your behaviour towards the officers was appalling."
Fining him £300, and ordering him to pay court costs of £125, she added "I accept you are ashamed and remorseful for your actions - you should be."
