Home power bills to get 5% VAT cut this autumn

Electricity bills should come down in October, after the government announced a VAT cut.

After the UK's new Prime Minister Andy Burnham introduced a similar cut, the Treasury says VAT on domestic power bills will be slashed from five per cent to zero.

Manx Utilities will bring in the change from Thursday, October 1.

Also included in the cut are small businesses that get energy VAT relief but aren't VAT-registered, charities and residential care homes.
