Castle Rushen High School says it needs to expand its services for vulnerable young people after a sharp rise in demand.
The Department of Education, Sport and Culture has applied for planning permission to make changes to the facility on Arbory Road in Castletown.
It says it wants to expand its Specialist Provision Centre after the number of students needing places more than doubled over the last year.
If approved, the work would see a new door and ramp built, as well as changes inside the building.
