Electricity and gas are the most expensive ways to heat a home - according to figures released by the government.
The Office of Fair Trading has released its annual report into heating costs comparing all forms of fuel.
It shows those who use electric appliances to heat their homes pay around 18.9 pence per kilowatt hour - 50 per cent more expensive than the next alternative - logs.
Gas heating prices are high at 9.7 pence.
By comparison coal costs just 7.3p and oil bought in bulk costs just 4.4.
