Health care staff can now work without a permit

Work permit exemptions have been introduced to help address issues with recruiting health and social care staff.

The changes brought in during the last Tynwald sitting mean nurses, midwives and social workers who are not from the Isle of Man can work here straight away without having to apply for a permit.
 
As it stands there are 50 positions that need filling annually, with only 15 home grown professionals qualifying each year. 
 
Economic Development Minister Laurence Skelly says the alterations had to happen:
