Health bosses say no need for worry over new cervical cancer vaccine

Speculation over the safety of a new drug which protects girls against cervical cancer is unfounded according to the Department of Health.

From September the department will be vaccinating eligible girls with Gardasil instead of the previous vaccine Cervarix.

Health bosses say it offers more extensive protection against a myriad of conditions including genital warts. 

The Cervarix vaccine is estimated to save around 400 lives per year - and some are questioning why the department is changing it for something different. 

However Health Protection Nurse Jacqui Dunne says the young girls set to receive the jab have absolutely nothing to worry about, and outlined the small number of side effects they may incur:
