Department of Education Will Announce Way They Intend to Finance Higher Education Now Universities Are In Charge of Setting Their Own Fees
The Department of Education and Children have revealed they will publish the way they intend to finance higher education for 2011, in December.
Traditionally the criteria for the student award schemes are unveiled in the spring time, but in light of University’s now being able to set their own fees Minister Eddie Teare felt it should be brought forward to give students and their families more notice of the changes.
From 2011 Universities will be permitted to boost their fees to upwards of £9000 a year, with the move expected to put immense strain on the provision currently offered to those seeking to move onto higher education in the Island.
Already it’s been revealed that in order to qualify for degree funding a student must achieve two grade C passes.
This year alone the Department spent £11.5 million paying tuition fees for more than 1,600 students in higher education.
