A former MHK is planning to run the New York marathon next month (November) to raise cash for Men in Sheds.
Ray Harmer wants to help set up a centre in the west of the Isle of Man.
He said the project will be housed in one of the garages next to Peel Town Hall.
It could open as early as January and would also be open to the wider community as a warm space.

Mr Harmer said: "We need funding to get the project off the ground for the facilities, tools and machinery to make this happen.
"£2000 has been raised previously but we need a further £1500 for levelling the floor, so we can start operating from January".
