The majority of those who responded to a consultation last year wanted to keep Marine Drive open to motorists.
A Freedom of Information response from the Department of Infrastructure shows they had 638 responses in total.
190 of which supported the closure, 438 were against it and 10 with 'no specific opinion.'
Those who wanted it closed to motorists were also in favour of it becoming an area used solely for pedestrians and cyclists.
However, the DOI made the decision earlier this year to keep the road open to cars, and to review it again if there are any issues.
