Douglas Coastguard is warning members of the public against using old flares this weekend ahead of Bonfire Night.
It says people are sometimes tempted to set off the flares in the belief that they won’t be noticed amongst the fireworks.
However the flares can cause unnecessary distress reports, which always have to be responded to, and if they are out of date could be dangerous.
Anyone who has expired pyrotechnics should notify the
Coastguard who will safely dispose of them.
