A call has gone out to owners of a real fire, to ensure that your chimney is swept and ready for usage over the winter.
The Fire Safety Team put out the timely reminder following a chimney fire in Ramsey on Thursday evening.
They've issued their guidance on chimney maintenance, stating a wood burner chimney should be swept quarterly when in use, coal fires at least twice a year and if you use smokeless fuels, once a year should be enough.
A blocked or defective chimney can cause carbon monoxide poisoning if undetected, which can in some cases be fatal.
If you want any further information you can visit the fire safety website.
