Fire and Safety team warn of lighting campfires and bonfires on dry ground

There have been numerous incidents where campfires and barbeques have burnt out of control on the dry ground.

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service have issued some timely reminders for any revellers looking to take advantage of the hot weather and plan a camping trip.

If you are planning a camping trip and are likely to be making a small fire you’re urged to first call the control room, alerting them of your intentions, and picking up some safety advice.

The same advice applies for people burning household waste in bonfires.

We spoke to Dave Cowley from the fire service; he said a lot of the safety advice they offer boils down to using common sense.
