Manx Utilities says it hired a specialist to see what effect floating solar panels would have on drinking water at Sulby Reservoir.
Responding to a Tynwald question for written reply from Rushen MHK Michelle Haywood, the organisation's chair John Wannenburgh said no decision's been made about the panels yet.
Dr Haywood wanted to know whether POFAs, also known as forever chemicals, could be released into the water.
Mr Wanneburgh said the chemical-free panels would be considered if the project goes ahead.
