Port St Mary lifeboat was launched yesterday to assist a rig near Scarlett Point that had broken down due to engine failure.
It happened at about 18:45 (BST) after the crew in Port St Mary was alerted by Belfast Coastguard.
Both people on board were safe and well and the rig was towed back to the harbour.
Lifeboat Operations Manager Sarah Keggen said: "We would like to remind anyone taking to the sea this summer to respect the water.
"Also, to always wear a life jacket and carry a means of communication.
"Should you get into difficulty call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard".
