The Department of Education, Sport and Children says it won't reveal how many children will be in schools from September.
A Freedom of Information request asked for school roll numbers for the coming academic year.
But in its response, the department said the figures were due to be published next month and releasing them early might mean they're inaccurate.
It says releases the numbers each September, with updated figures released each February.
