Lewis Campbell, of Hawarden Avenue, Douglas, appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood at Douglas Courthouse.
The 24-year-old admitted drink driving and possessing an offensive weapon on January 27, when police spotted him staggering into Chester Street car park and getting into his BMW.
He drove off and was finally stopped on Windsor Road, where officers found an axe in the boot.
Campbell was fined a total of £1,650 and banned from driving for two years as well as being ordered to pay £125 costs.
