Douglas prom cyclists warned by police

The promenade before the cycle lane was rubbed out by DoI

Cyclists who use Douglas Promenade are being warned that they could be prosecuted if they're involved in an incident.

That's the message from police, who say there have been a number of incidents of 'inconsiderate cycling' over the last week.

In one case, a child was knocked off her bicycle by another fast-moving cyclist - luckily there were no injuries.

People are being asked to respect others - in particular the young and the frail - and to monitor their speed accordingly.

After the Department of Infrastructure decided to remove the designated cycle lane - our listeners have been having their say.

Tracy says: "It's now a 'free for all' and like some sort of race", and Gary observes: "cyclists can be inconsiderate anywhere".

Emma explained: "It was an accident waiting to happen"; claiming bicycles belong on the road.

Ed says: "Sometimes it's not the cyclists' fault with pedestrians not paying enough attention."
