The Department of Infrastructure says each of its school buses costs more than half a million pounds a year to run.
A Freedom of Information request to the department asked for details on how much bus subsidies cost the government each year.
The DOI says fuel, maintenance, drivers and depreciation add up to £504,603 a year - and each bus made just £195,000.
And it adds as a result, each school bus costs the taxpayer £309,603 a year to run.
