The Department of Infrastructure says drivers don't need to follow race directions if they spot digital flags lit up this week.
Race Organisers say they'll be testing the new system around the Mountain Course on Friday.
The test, from 6am, will see the displays turn red or black but no action is needed from motorists.
The system will be used during this year's race festival, now less than a week away.
