The Department of Health and Social Care says it needs a temporary head to lead it - for up to £125,000 a year.
The DHSC has advertised on the government job site for an interim chief officer to take over its most senior civil service role.
In its advert, the department says whoever takes over would do so on a limited term contract and earn up to £125,000 a year.
The closing date is Wednesday, April 23.
