A significant development could be on the cards for Jurby if plans are approved.
The Minister for Social Care will ask Tynwald approval tomorrow to spend nearly £800,000 to build six new apartments, environmental works and car park.
Chris Robertshaw is proposing three blocks of two-storey apartments each containing two two-bedroomed flats designed to the Department’s current housing standards.
At least 28 people are currently on the DSC’s waiting list for small rented apartment in the north. It’s hoped the ground-floor properties can be adapted for people with a range of mobility needs.
The cost of the scheme is within the budget already included in the Government estimates for this year and if approved will allow the project to start on site later this month.
The Douglas East MHK will also request government approval for three projects in the Minor Capital Works Programme, two in support of affordable housing and one for Social Services, to the total value of £220,000.
The first project would be the resurfacing of the car park at Ballabrooie in Sulby and the second would be to renew soffits, fascia and guttering to 28 houses at Glen Mooar in Laxey as part of the ongoing planned maintenance of the department’s estates.
The third project would be to refurbish and renovate properties on Tynwald Terrace in Douglas in order to provide supported living accommodation for some adults recovering from mental illness.
