The accident saw a Steam Packet rope man sustain an injury to his leg after walking on steel grating that partially collapsed.
The Department of Infrastructure has been forced to pay a fine of £16,000 after pleading guilty to charges relating to an accident at the Edward Pier in Douglas Harbour.
The Department swiftly pleaded guilty to the charges which dated back to August of last year.
The accident saw a Steam Packet rope man sustain an injury to his leg after walking on steel grating that partially collapsed.
At the time the ropeman was engaged in letting go of the mooring ropes of the Steam Packet’s fastcraft Manannan
His leg went through the grating resulting in a significant cut.
In giving it’s judgement the Court initially considered that the fine should have totalled £24,000 – this was reduced however given the prompt guilty plea, and other mitigating factors.
Since the incident a large scale inspection on the pier was carried out, and all necessary improvements have since been made.
