The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture will consider making microchipping compulsory for cats.
It comes after responses to a consultation have been published, asking for views on the welfare code for the animals.
Following suggestions, DEFA says it will possibly consult on cat microchipping in the future, but it wouldn't be covered by the welfare codes at the moment.
Microchipping is currently advised, but is not a legal requirement on the Island.
