The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture says it only spent £600 on trying to contract out the Island's meat plant.
A freedom of information request asked how much the tendering process for the Tromode abattoir had cost the taxpayer.
The government cancelled the tender and recently announced it would form a new operating body to run it instead.
The department says the only spending it recorded for the process was £609 to advertise in the local press and an industry magazine.
