DEC says Island language system for immigrants works

Will the Department of Education and Children follow the UK's lead and pump more money into assisting pupils with English as a second language?

MHK Peter Karran asked the question in last week's Tynwald sitting, referencing the fact that extra payments have been made recently by the UK government.

As it stands the DEC provides a bilingual service - which provides specialist teachers, support staff and learning materials.

Minister Tim Crookall says he believes the current system working well in the Island and with this in mind there are no additional plans to follow the UK's example.
