A gold chronograph by Island watchmaker George Daniels sold for £1.33million at a Sotheby’s auction this afternoon.
The item is part of a large collection by the late Mr Daniels up for auction with all funds going to his education trust.
Around £5million is expected to be raised by the time the auction closes later tonight (Tuesday).
The chronograph was titled the ‘Space Travellers Watch'; the staggering fee was twice its estimate.
Mr Daniels was considered the finest watchmaker in the world before his death in 2011.
The auction is set to last late in to the night with the loudest cheer so far coming with the sale of his chronograph masterpiece.
