Police killer Cregan to die in prison

The man who murdered PCs Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes as well as a father and son will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Dale Cregan was sentenced this afternoon (Thursday) at Preston Crown Court after his long-running trial came to an end.

The 30-year-old had previously pleaded guilty to murdering PC Fiona Bone from Port St Mary and her colleague Nicola Hughes while on duty in Manchester last year.

Cregan had also confessed to the killing of father and son David and Mark Short earlier in the year.

He was handed four whole life sentences and will never leave prison.

On September 18 Cregan lured the unarmed constables with a bogus 999 call to a house in Hattersley.

Cregan shot Pc Hughes eight times, Pc Bone was hit up to eight times after she managed to draw and fire her Taser.

Earlier today, in a separate charge, Cregan was found not guilty of the attempted murder of Sharon Hark in a grenade attack.
