Douglas Council has had to apply for registered building consent to display a plaque given to it by Queen Camilla.
Last month, she delivered letters to the council to officially make Douglas a city - and gave the local authority a plaque to mark the occasion.
But the Town Hall is a registered building and so the council has applied for permission to put the plaque on the building.
In its application, it says it wants to put the plaque on a raised stone plinth on the right hand side of the main entrance on Ridgeway Street.
