Cost of French lessons to be discussed in House of Keys

Alf Cannan (L) will quiz Peter Karran (R)

The cost of providing French lessons to primary school pupils will be raised in tomorrow’s House of Keys sitting.

Last month the Department of Education and Children announced it would be cutting the primary modern language service from September as part of a series of cuts in education.

Michael MHK Alf Cannan will ask the Education and Children Minister, Peter Karran, how much the department spent on providing the lessons in 2011 and 2012.

He also wants to know how much money the department expects to save in 2012 and 2013 by stopping the lessons.

In another question for oral answer Mr Cannan will ask the Minister how many school visits he has undertaken since he took his ministerial position within the department.
