Concerns Island may be targeted as UK tightens on immigration

Chief Minister Alf Cannan says the Island might be targeted as the UK strengthens its immigration rules.

He was responding to a Tynwald question for written reply from Rushen MHK Juan Watterson, who asked about how the Island's new border agency would work.

Mr Cannan says people looking to exploit weaknesses in border and immigration controls might look to jurisdictions which they see as more vulnerable.

He explained the new agency is part of the government's response to these evolving threats.
