A recent revelation from a UK medical study has forced the suspension of elective colorectal surgery at Noble's Hospital.
The decision was taken by the Department of Health following recent recognition of a higher than expected complication rate in patients undergoing the surgery.
The surgery has been stopped with immediate effect whilst investigations are carried out into the practices and procedures.
Those requiring the treatment within the next few weeks will be referred to an NHS trust within the UK, and their surgery will be performed as planned.
It’s thought only a small number of patients will be affected by this and emergency surgery will continue to be performed on-Island
