Child sex abuse statistics from 2006 - 2011 revealed in Tynwald

Minister Earnshaw commends high conviction rate

In Tynwald today the Home Affairs Minister Adrian Earnshaw revealed the Isle of Man’s child sex abuse statistics from 2006 to the present day.

Douglas North MHK Bill Henderson asked him how many reports of sexual abuse against children have been reported to his Department, and how many people have been charged and convicted in court.

In terms of reported cases 2006 to 2007 saw the highest figures, with 61 cases, 9 resulting in convictions.

The most recent stats show 27 cases reported, with 6 resulting in convictions.

Minister Earnshaw said the fact that all but one of the persons charged in the last three years have been convicted, shows an improving attrition rate.
