50-year-old Jonathan Richard Fletcher, of Derby Road, appeared at Douglas Courthouse on Tuesday where he was told the case was being withdrawn.
The court heard he had made two 999 calls on October 26th claiming that he had a knife held to his throat - when police arrived they found him with the weapon.
Addressing the court the prosecutor said he didn't think the case was in the public interest and there wasn't a realistic prospect of prosecution.
The charge was withdrawn and Mr Fletcher was released from the Isle of Man Prison where he'd been held on remand.
