Champ – the American pitbull that lives on the Island has been destroyed.
The Department of Agriculture claims that he is an illegal breed.
Since June
the Department explored a number of options for the dog’s future, including
re-housing in the Republic of Ireland where it is legal to possess such a dog,
but was unable to identify an appropriate long-term home.
A statement from DAFF says... In the circumstances, the Department concluded that the most appropriate action to take, in accordance with the law of the Isle of Man, was to arrange for its humane destruction.
There was
outcry and a number of rallies over the past months against the Governments
decision to destroy the pet.
But he was
put to sleep last night despite claims that Champs owner has successfully managed
to relocate him to Ireland.
